Alexandra Golfis, Clinical Mental Health Practicum Student

Welcome! I am so glad you are making the first big step in the counseling process and are looking for a counselor that will be a right fit for you! My name is Alexandra Golfis and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling student at Houston Christian University in the final stages of completing my master’s degree. I am excited to be working under the supervision of HT’s Clinicial Director Tara Greer, LCSW-S and Hopeful Texas.

The road that led me to finding my passion for counseling was a long and bumpy path, but I truly feel within the journey I found my life calling. It is hard to express the excitement and joy it brings me to know that I am working towards helping others learn that without darkness there could be no light, and that everyone has the power within themselves to be the light.

With this knowledge comes a strongly grounded inner sense of control, peace, and the ability to release negative patterns that influence our present life and behaviors. Through counseling at Hopeful Texas, you can learn how to discover your hidden inner abilities and skills while learning new coping skills for a wide variety of challenges you may face throughout your lifetime.

As a first-generation daughter of immigrants, I understand firsthand that life is a never-ending journey, and the terrain isn’t always smooth. But the good news is you do not have to travel alone! Book your first session with me today to get help navigating your life and enhance your overall well-being.

Training & Certifications

My interest in psychology first started when taking an Advanced Placement Program (AP) psychology class in high school. From there my passion grew and I eventually graduated from Texas State University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in anthropology. During my time as a master’s program student at Houston Christian University, I have also obtained a certificate from John Hopkins in Psychological First Aid and a certificate in CITI training (collaborative institutional training initiative).

Training & Certifications Quick Summary

  • B.S. Psychology, Texas State University
  • Psychological First Aid Certificate, John Hopkins
  • CITI Training Certificate (collaborative institutional training initiative)
  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Houston Christian University (projected graduation is for Fall 2025!)

Types of Therapy / Counseling Theory Orientation

I personally believe counseling sessions should be based off each individual’s unique needs and circumstances. I recognize that every person is uniquely complex and should be treated as such. As an integrative counselor I understand that there isn’t just one therapeutic approach that can help clients in every possible situation.

For this reason, I prefer to take an integrative counseling approach. An integrative counseling approach is a type of psychotherapy that combines techniques from different therapy modalities to create a customized approach based on each individual’s unique needs and circumstances. A few counseling modalities I may incorporate into our sessions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Ultimately, we will work together to define your goals and form treatment plan options that will help you reach them.
